RDA Colloquium in Mexico City
An international group of librarians met in Mexico City earlier this month to discuss RDA and its future in Latin America. The 1er Coloquio sobre RDA en América Latina: Retos de la implementación del nuevo RDA Toolkit en las bibliotecas de América Latina (First Colloquium on RDA in Latin America: Challenges of Implementing the new RDA Toolkit in Latin American Libraries) was held at the Biblioteca Nacional de México and the included presentations by cataloging leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and of course Mexico. Ángela Quiroz Ubierna, RDA Board representative for Latin America and the Caribbean, Gordon Dunsire, chair of the RDA Steering Committee, and James Hennelly, director of RDA Toolkit, also presented to an audience with attendees from more than 10 countries. The week-long event included an RDA workshop, overviews of the 3R Project and the Library Reference Model, and presentations on a wide range of RDA-related topics. There were also discussion about organizing a regional RDA group that would join the RDA governance structure as a contributor to the RDA Steering Committee.
