The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa has announced that beginning August 1, 2024, they are using the Official RDA Toolkit to describe print and digital monographs and are aiming to describe all formats using the Official RDA Toolkit by the end of this year.

NLNZ also stated that this transition has required some changes to their MARC records. Click here for the full list of changes and learn more about forthcoming MARC records changes in the December 2023 issue of Catapult newsletter or the May 2024 OCLC Cataloguing Community Meeting for libraries in Australia and New Zealand. Materials from the first phase of training are freely available on the National Library Niche Academy site

NLNZ joins the small group of libraries that have transitioned to Official RDA, and this announcement serves as a good reminder that the Original RDA Toolkit will be removed from the Web in May 2027. Now is a good opportunity to explore how major libraries are approaching this important transition and how your library can prepare for the Official RDA Toolkit.
