RSC Translations Team Liaison Officer Appointed and RDA Reference Translation News
Daniel Paradis has been appointed as the Translations Team Liaison Officer on the RDA Steering Committee (RSC), effective December 1, 2016. This appointment is another step in the expansion of governance planned for the RSC, and is the first of the new specialist officer roles to be activated. In this role, Daniel will also take on leadership of the RDA Translations Working Group from James Hennelly, with immediate effect. The Translations Team Liaison Officer represents the interests of RDA translators and the Translations Working Group on RSC.
Daniel is the Bibliographic Standards Librarian at Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), a role he has held since November 2015. Earlier in his career, he worked as a music and generalist cataloguer at the National Library of Canada, Université de Montréal, and Concordia University. He was part of a team of trainers that provided RDA training to French-speaking libraries in Québec in 2013 and 2014 (total of 29 workshops for more than 600 participants). Daniel has been involved with the French translation of RDA as a member of the French RDA Translation Team since 2011.
The new appointment coincides with the release of new procedures for translating RDA Reference, in the final stages of beta-testing on the RDA Registry. This will allow the many pending new translations of RDA Reference to proceed. More information can be found on the RDA Registry website:
RDA Reference: Translations, available at http://www.rdaregistry.info/rgAbout/rdaref/translations/.
The new infrastructure for RDA Reference data maintenance and flow, given in the appendix to RSC/Chair/17 (available at http://www.rda-rsc.org/sites/all/files/RSC-Chair-17-fix.pdf) and on the RDA Registry website (http://www.rdaregistry.info/rgAbout/rdaref/dataflow/), will be rolled-out for use for full translations of RDA Toolkit during 2017. This work is also integrated with the 3R Project. Further information can be found in a previous announcement:
