RDA Preconference at ALA Annual 2018: A Practical Introduction to the New RDA Toolkit
The RDA Toolkit Redesign Update and Preview preconference on Friday, June 22, 2018 will be subtitled "A Practical Introduction to the New RDA Toolkit."
A beta version of the new Toolkit for community feedback will be publicly released on June 13.
This preconference will be the first opportunity for catalogers to see this new tool in a group setting and to provide their thoughts and reactions to the RDA Steering Committee. James Hennelly from ALA Publishing will review the features and functionality, including the improvements to profiles and to user-created documentation that will make working with Toolkit easier. There will be a walk-through of the new "data dictionary" structure of the element instructions, with orientation and navigation tips. New styles and features for examples will be shown. RDA Steering Committee (RSC) members will talk about the changes to RDA content from a practical perspective. What is the difference between a preferred name or title and an access point? What new elements have been added? Why did relationship designators turn into elements, and how are they used? What has changed for aggregates and serials?
Participants can bring their own questions for RSC experts. A small celebration to mark the public release of the new Toolkit will conclude the event.
Register for the preconference at the ALA Ticketed Events page.
