RDA at the ALA Midwinter
The RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign Project (3R Project) will be a major focus of discussion at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. The project aims to significantly improve the functionality and utility of RDA Toolkit and will include revisions to RDA based on the IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM).
At Midwinter in Atlanta, the Co-Publishers of RDA will be hosting two important events that seek to share information about the 3R Project with the public and to get feedback on the project plans.
RDA Forum
January 21, 10:30-11:30am Georgia World Congress Center, room B407 The Forum will include two presentations. Kathy Glennan, ALA representative to the RDA Steering Committee (RSC), will report on the outcomes of the November RSC meeting in Frankfurt, focusing on RSC plans for revising RDA to bring it in line with the LRM and editorial changes related to the redesign of the Toolkit. James Hennelly, director of RDA Toolkit, will explain the impetus for the 3R Project, the planning process and major goals of the project, and the schedule from start to completion. Time will be reserved for a Q&A session after the presentations.
RDA Tech Forum
January 23, 1:00-2:30pm Georgia World Congress Center, room B405 The RDA Tech Forum will be a town hall event. A panel comprised of James Hennelly and available RSC and RDA Development Team members will be on hand to share the thinking behind the 3R Project and some of the user experience concepts we are working on, and to hear any input users might have regarding RDA and the Toolkit. There is still plenty of time to affect the direction of the 3R Project. We are hoping for a lively session with an active audience that will share ideas on how to improve the Toolkit and let us know what does or does not work well, what changes should be made and which shouldn’t, and even what should be left alone.
