Amendments 2004


The 2004 amendments were published in the 2004 update to the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second edition, 2002 revision. See also: Amendments to AACR.

Summary of Major Changes in Amendments 2004

  • Revision to the rules on sources of information at 1.0, including the transfer of the former 1.0H (Items with several chief sources of information) to 1.0A.
  • Changes to rules 1.6B1 and 1.0F1 on inaccuracies and the transcription of series titles.
  • Changes to the rules for punctuation in dimensions 3.5D1 and 3.5D5, and similar rules in other chapters.
  • Changes to chapter 9 to remove area 3. The option has been added to give the physical description for an electronic resource that is available only by remote access.
  • Changes to 6.5B1, 7.5B1 with the added option of using terms in common usage; changes to 9.5B1 with the added option to give a term preferably taken from subrule 5B.
  • Rule 12.1E1 revised to remove the distinction between serials and integrating resources.
  • Revisions to rules 21.2, 21.3A2, 21.6A1, and 21.30J1 to remove predominance as the basis of description for multipart monographs.
  • Revision of 21.29 to add an instruction regarding serials, multipart monographs and integrating resources.
  • Additions to the lists of Malay titles at 22.27D.
