RDA Toolkit and the RDA Steering Committee will host three events at the ALA Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits in Denver. We hope you are able to join us for one or all of these events.
RDA Toolkit Redesign Update and Preview

Event Code: ALA2
Location: Colorado Convention Center Rm 201
One of the activities related to the recent RSC meeting at the Biblioteca Nacional de España in Madrid was a community outreach event entitled "Preparing for the New Toolkit". The event was recorded and can be viewed at the BNE website. The presentations were given in English, but a Spanish translator was also present.
RDA should be a core component of any cataloging course or training, and we want to ensure that access is easily available to LIS programs for instructors and students. As of October 17, 2017 we are announcing a new LIS pricing model:
30 users for $500
50 users for $800
A new release of RDA Toolkit will be published on October 10, 2017. When there is a new release for RDA Toolkit, it is typically made on the second Tuesday of the month. Releases typically contain changes to content and metadata, enhancements to RDA Toolkit functionality, and fixes to existing bugs. The details of the August release follow.
Members of the RSC participated in a meeting on "Impact of the IFLA Library Reference Model on ISBD, RDA and other bibliographic standards" at Wrocław University Library on 25 August 2017, following the IFLA World Library and Information Congress. Information on that meeting can be found on the RSC website.
Significant advancements have been made toward the completion of the 3R project (also known as the RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign Project), and unexpected obstacles have arisen. Both the progress made and the obstacles encountered have made clear that the original goal of an April rollout of the redesigned Toolkit is no longer feasible. A new target date of June 13th has been set. The goals for the June rollout are to have the completed new RDA text in English and at least one other language and 2 or 3 updated policy statements.
The RDA Steering Committee (RSC) will be convening at the Biblioteca Nacional de España in Madrid this October. The RSC will meet in closed session from October 24th through 26th, but there will also be holding a special outreach event on October 23rd that free and open to anyone. The event is titled "Preparing for the new RDA Toolkit" and will include an update on the 3R project and changes to RDA related to the Library Reference Model.
A new release of RDA Toolkit will be published on August 8, 2017. When there is a new release for RDA Toolkit, it is typically made on the second Tuesday of the month. Releases typically contain changes to content and metadata, enhancements to RDA Toolkit functionality, and fixes to existing bugs. The details of the August release follow.
As work on the 3R Project progresses, we have had to make adjustments to plans for the releases in 2017. The upcoming August release was intended to be the last release of 2017. However, as we transition to new translation software and implement registry synchronization for the Toolkit translations, it has become clear that the translation teams will need more time to complete their work.
